Benefits  of  Suryanamaskar
 

1. Bad back

This is a gentleman who had a bad back with pain. He required constant treatment from professionals. He was advised via skype to do the stretching as per suryanamaskar technique. Only a small segment of suryanamaskar was prescribed. Within days his back started feeling better. Today after years he has good control over his back problem. It does not bother him any more as long as he does the stretches every day. He has become a religious follower of suryanamaskar stretching. It has also driven away his worries of pain, suffering & inability to do tasks which can be quite frustrating.

 

2. Bad back

This gentleman was a mountaineer & was injured long time ago leading to bad back. Since I was not available locally, I could not offer Acupuncture treatment. He was prescribed suryanamaskar style stretches. Lo & behold within weeks his back responded with positive results. Today after a couple of years of religious practice he is free from all pain & suffering. He has also taken up the courage to consider returning to his sport via trekking to start off before he may consider mountain climbing again. Such is the effect of a good presciption, diligent practice & body’s  incredible healing ability.

 

3. Runners recovery

A young man used to run about 10kms every day at lunch time. Without fail , the next morning he would feel stiffness of body.This gentleman started learning suryanamaskar & was practising Grade 4 & Grade 5 suryanamaskar every day. He did this at night. After a few weeks, he was surprised to note, that the next day his body stopped being stiff. He was nice & flexible & felt normal again when he woke up.

After a few weeks of this experience he informed me about the side effects of suryanamaskar that he experienced.

A good side effect to have.

 

 

4. Badminton

This person practised Grade 4 , level 4 , suryanamaskar. Each suryanamaskar takes 115 seconds to complete. After practicing for 5-6 weeks, he noticed the following :

a) His reflexes appeared to have improved & heightened.

b) His jump in the air improved by a few cms. This meant he could hit the shuttle at a sharper angle.

c) His court coverage improved.

d) His recovery after a game improved.

Some good benefits to have while exercising.

 

5. Swimmer

This person practised Grade 4, level 4 suryanamaskar for 5 - 6 weeks & noticed the following;

a) His start off the blocks was much better. This was due to improved reflexes.

b) His stroke & power had improved to the point that he was able to beat opponents he had never dreamed of.

     He was able to lead for 50m.till the turn.

c) He found it useful as a warm up exercise.

d) It did not change his endurance ability –which was not expected

 

6. Walking speed

This was experienced by a middle aged couple who were learning suryanamaskar. After 5 weeks of learning & regular practise of suryanamaskar at Grade 7 & Grade 4, they noticed the same improvement in their performance.

They used to walk religiously for the past many years for one hour. They covered the same distance every week.

After suryanamaskar practice for few weeks, they noticed that they were now completing the same walking distance in 55 minutes without making any increase in effort. They could not understand the reason. It was explained that due to the body becoming lighter, the muscle length being longer due to suryanamaskar effect, their cadence (step length) would have increased by a few cms for every step.

That when accounted for a full hour of walking provided extra gain in distance & hence faster walking.

Another interesting side effect of suryanamaskar  practised  correctly & diligently.
