Yog

This  is the experiential study of human body, its movements, its ability to change & focussing on slow steady controlled movements in every aspect of the asana. Yog benefits the body in terms of

Flexibility, stretching, endurance, patience, awareness of body, understanding limits of your body, concentration, a strong mental attitude & a balanced and open mind.

The essence of yog is --

"Slow motion exercises, with total concentration on every part being moved & actions being performed. This is done while focussed attention on relaxed breathing, occurs at all times".

One never holds their breath during any aspect of movement during any asan. One pays close attention to breath, breathing pattern, change in heart rhythm, & all muscles & joints involved in the process of each asan.

A thorough understanding of yog helps one to adapt all exercise forms into the yogic concept of regulated movement with consciousness & total attention to the activity at hand.

Yog needs to be practised every day  as research has demonstrated that the proprioceptive messages are remembered by the body only for a 24 hour period. Hence to maintain the body -one needs to practise yog every day, preferably at the same time.

We have not talked about different asans.
